For more than 17 years, AUBD athletes and families have travelled internationally to experience basketball beyond Australia.

In December 2027, we are planning to return to the United States, with a new Florida-based tour incorporating Miami, Tampa and Orlando.

The USA has always been a significant part of the AUBD story. Our teams have competed successfully against American opposition for many years, winning more than 25 international junior championships and building relationships throughout the U.S. basketball community.

Our 2027 tour is being designed to combine high-level competition, professional basketball experiences, development opportunities, and an unforgettable family holiday.

Planning is still in its preliminary stages, but the foundations of what could become one of our most exciting international tours are beginning to take shape.

WHAT ARE WE CURRENTLY PLANNING?

WHAT IS THE PROPOSED MIAMI HEAT EXPERIENCE?

In September 2026, AUBD was visited in Melbourne by the Miami HEAT Junior Coordinator and Head of Youth programming.

Following the visit, discussions commenced around the possibility of hosting AUBD athletes as part of our 2027 Florida tour.

While arrangements are still preliminary, we are exploring opportunities that may allow our athletes to train, learn and experience basketball within the Miami HEAT junior development environment while in Florida.

For young Australian basketball players, the opportunity to experience the game inside an NBA organisation’s development environment would make this an extraordinary addition to the tour.

Will THE 2027 TOUR INCLUDE A BAHAMAS CRUISE?

We are currently considering finishing the 2027 AUBD Tour USA with a 3-night Bahamas cruise from approximately 20–23 December 2027.

At this stage, we are exploring whether the cruise should form part of the main tour or be offered as an optional extension. If included in the main tour, families may return to Australia around Christmas Day or Boxing Day. If offered as an optional extension, families who do not wish to participate may be able to return home earlier.

We are currently seeking feedback from AUBD families through our Expression of Interest form before finalising this part of the itinerary.

WHAT'S TEAMS DO WE TAKE ON TOUR?

AUBD ususally takes a mininum of 4 and maximum of 5 teams and vary depending on the Tour. Teams can be based on a combination on age and / or year level in school. Our teams have included:

HOW MANY GAMES DOES EACH TOUR TEAM PLAY?

Each team can play anywhere from 15 – 20 games over the duration of the Tour

WHAT IS THE STANDARD OF COMPETITION ON TOUR?

AUBD’s tour teams only compete in the highest level events, against some of the best competition the USA has to offer!

CAN PARENTS / FAMILY ACCOMPANY THE TOUR?

Definitely! AUBD encourages parents / families to share in the Tour experience with the athletes. Everyone that goes on Tour are active participants in every aspect of the tour whether they are attending / supporting at games or attending organised sightseeing activites.

ARRIVAL IN COLOMBO

TRAVEL DAY

The AUBD Tour members depart Melbourne and arrive in Colombo. After clearing immigration, the group transfers to Cinnamon Grand Colombo for check-in and rest.

HOTEL SETTLE-IN

ACCOMMODATION

Families settle into Cinnamon Grand Colombo before gathering for a beautifully curated Welcome Dinner and Cultural Show at Nuga Gama, where lantern light, traditional music, and the flavours of Sri Lanka set the tone for the journey ahead.

WELCOME DINNER & CULTURAL SHOW

DINNER MIXER

The tour officially begins with a hosted Welcome Dinner at Nuga Gama. Families enjoy authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and a live cultural show, connecting with other tour members.

AUBD staff provide a soft orientation covering the week’s schedule, local customs, and cultural highlights as families explore Cinnamon Grand Colombo.

Teams complete their first official training session at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, adjusting to local playing conditions ahead of competition.

APG CUP TOURNAMENT

TOURNAMENT COMPETITION

The APG Cup begins, with all teams competing across two full days. Players gain exposure to international competition, unique play styles, and the opportunity to represent Australia on a global stage.
Games will be played at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

TRANSFER TO BENTONA BEACH

The group departs Colombo and transitions to Bentota Beach for the coastal phase of the tour.
